Mike Baur was raised in Fribourg, Switzerland. Ever since he was a teenager, he has always loved banking and finance. It, therefore, came as no surprise when he pursued it and started a career out of it. Baur was a practitioner rather than a theorist and realized that a successful career would not be possible without higher education. He did his undergraduate studies at the School of Administration in Fribourg where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance. He then studied at the University of Rochester where he got an MBA and then later on graduated with an executive MBA from the University of Bern.
Mike Baur has spent over 20 years in the banking industry in Switzerland eventually becoming an executive board member at one of the largest private banks in the country. He has worked for prominent banks such as Sallfort and Clariden in his illustrious career. Baur became an entrepreneur in 2014 at the age of 39. He founded Swiss Startup Factory jointly with two other partners in 2014 in Zurich to assist and guide young digital innovators. The company is the largest in the country to be financed independently and privately owned. Swiss Startup Factory is the first of its kind in the country and regularly runs accelerator programs for technopreneurs every three months. In the three months, chosen startups are tested and taken through paces to guarantee that they can be innovative enough to take on the international market.
The program is non-biased and has already developed a solid network of investors in the country and across the globe. It seeks to influence and nurture young leaders on their path to developing large international corporations. The program by Swiss Startup Factory provides opportunities where mentoring and coaching are given is sectors such as investor network, entrepreneurial network, office space and finance. Extending entrepreneurial networks can aid young companies to accomplish their goals. Mike spends much of his leisure time coming up with ideas to progress his company. He aspires to mentor as many startups as possible to reach greater heights as some of the world’s largest corporations. He is in charge of fundraising and financing at Swiss Startup Factory.
